Make Money Online With a Home-Based Online Business

By Karen Hutton

There are two major types of business models that entrepreneurs use to make money blogging. The first and most common way to turn a blog into a profit making machine is to sell advertising to different companies and brands who want to reach that blog's readers.

The second kind of money making blog is one that helps a single brand improve its image by creating positive associations between the blog and the product in the mind of consumers.

If you're creating a blog with the intention of selling advertising opportunities then you basically have two options at your disposal as far as finding sponsors is concerned. You can either pay someone else to do all the work for you, or alternatively, you could do it all yourself, in which case you get to keep 100% of the profits.

If you want to make money online, and you intend using a blog to sell advertising space, then there are essentially two ways you can go about getting people to advertise on your site. You could leave the responsibility to someone else and then pay them for their services, or alternatively you could do everything yourself and get to keep all the profits.

With regards to the first option, a great number of entrepreneurs make money online by selling advertising space via the Google Adsense program, and of course this way does have several benefits, in that it requires very little effort on your part in order to begin taking in profit. Unfortunately however, many people who take this route end up being disappointed because they usually make less money than what they had anticipated.

If you're trying to establish a profitable home-based online business then you may find that selling advertising directly to companies is far too time consuming, but with that said, it can prove to be very lucrative. In fact, this may be an ideal route to follow if you have a number of contacts in industries that are in some way related to the content of your blog. Even though there is plenty of money to be made by selling or renting out blog space, it's not an ideal solution for everyone, in that companies will usually only be interested once your blog has a large following. This obviously means that you may need to invest several months of your time before you can start making money from renting out blog space, and if your need to make money online is urgent, then obviously it would be better to follow a different route.

As blogging becomes a more and more lucrative business, a lot of established companies are considering how they can get into the action. One way that companies are capitalizing on the blog movement is by having blogs that provide a kind of friendly face for their corporation. Often, a company will employ an established blogger to create a weblog designed specifically to appeal to that company's customers and to create positive associations with the brand in consumers' minds. More than one writer who never even dreamed that he or she could make money blogging has been approached by a company and offered quite a pretty penny for this kind of gig.
