Facedrink, the Social Energy Drink Shot

By Darryl Williams

The importance of social media has grown increasingly over the past few years. Facebook is undoubtedly the most popular reference and it has become an integral part of life. People have adopted common expressions such as "liking this" in everyday conversation and we have started to see more and more Facebook inspired Halloween costumes. Nominated for eight Academy Awards, "The Social Network" is a movie about the founding of the social networking website Facebook.

I recently discovered that the social networking site also dipped its foot into the beverage world! California based company, Facedrink, has developed a real energy shot based on Facebook. The company claims that it "tastes like friendship" as a reference to the social media site as well as exploiting the slogan "It gives you Social Energy" in marketing and it is defined as "Social energy is what you need to manage all of the events in your life."

It is a quick to drink and small in size similar to those 5-hour ENERGY Shots. Facedrink is delivered in a 2.5 ounce bottle and contains three-calories this without sugar or carbohydrates. This energy shot is a blend of natural tropical flavors with taurine, guarana and 140 mg of caffeine.

Each energy shot is wrapped in a deep blue shrink sleeve with simple graphics. Facedrink whose logo is based on Facebook's white artwork is hailed as "the social drink" below it in the same font. Below that is a lighter blue box that says "Add as Friend" as another tribute to the site.

The drink, which is clearly not linked to Facebook, is probably going to deal with some legal issues when the CEO of Facebook gets wind of it. Thus, Facedrink will certainly not be named the official drink of Facebook. Besides, Mark Zuckerberg recently got his lawyers to ban the sale of the "Poking Inventor," an action figure that bore his likeness, although I will admit that is more of a serious issue.

This new product is being marketed exclusively toward social media users, promising Facebook over-users to provide them "social energy." So is Facedrink destined to be the drink of choice for nerds around the globe?
