Web Marketing for Beginners

By Alan Moore

This article has information on how to do web marketing the right way, we will focus on what a beginner needs to do on the web.

If you are a business owner and not hugely technical then this is the article for you. We will cover topics such as search engine optimisation, email marketing campaigns, working with newsletters, banner adverts and of course creating your website. So if you feel that web marketing is completed (and it is), then read on for some simple internet marketing plans.

One of the most basic steps for starting an Internet marketing campaign is to create a website. If you don't have a website or have a poorly designed website you should consider creating or re-designing a website to adequately market your products. If you do not have experience in web design, there are a number of software packages which make it simple for those with no design experience to create a functional website. However, hiring a web designer is worthwhile because he can work to create a website which is attractive, functional and suitable to your products and services. He can also help you include more advanced features on your website.

A good way to get traffic into your site is by using banner adverts on other websites and linking them back to your site. This is most successful if you can put the adverts onto relevant sites which have a lot of traffic. Visitors will be more likely to click if your website is relevant to what they are doing. Banner adverts are the adverts you sometimes see across the top of a web page or sometimes on the right hand side.

E-newsletters are one good option when working on your web marketing plan. E-newsletters are information emails that you send out to your subscribers. These emails should be packed with information and education on your product or service area. There should be no hard sell in it but a soft sell is ok. The important thing to remember is that you are trying to keep your brand in front of people's eyes, not hit them over the head with it. This way, when they are ready to buy, they will remember you and not a competitor.

Email marketing campaigns can be another successful aspect of an Internet marketing campaign. Email marketing essentially involves sending out emails to a group of individuals who may be interested in your products and services. Care should be taken in sending out these emails to avoid sending emails which are unsolicited and will be viewed as spam. One way to do this is to only send out the emails to users who have requested inclusion on an email mailing list. Another way to do this is to provide value in the emails as opposed to just including advertisements. This can be done by offering relevant advice in your emails and other useful information which may be of interest to the recipients of the email.

The most important at the end, optimizing your website for search engines. This is super important. You need to spend some times choosing the keywords that you want to rank for and provide relevant content on your website were the keyword appears on the page a number of times. You will see a huge jump in traffic once you rank well for particular keywords. You really need to be on the first page, but you can still make sales on page 2 or 3. It is a good idea to get a professional to work with you on this, as there is some work in getting to page 1 of Google.
