Should I Hire An Outside SEO Company?

By Julie Johnson

Your company website is built. Perhaps you have designed it yourself or maybe you have hired a top-notch web design company to do it for you. Whatever the case, you now want your content to be viewed by the masses but how do you best drive customers to choose your content over other the competition? You want to be at the top of the query list, and not located twenty pages deep into a search. How can you drive traffic to your site over the billions of other sites out there with similar content?

The choice of course, is with Search Engine Optimization. You can either hire a professional organization to do this for you or you can do it yourself. The results will likely vary drastically, depending on which avenue you choose, so consider this decision carefully.

One of the first questions you may want to ask yourself is whether you have the ability to embark on a successful SEO plan without a professional's assistance. You will need some knowledge of HTML coding. And you'll need to know how to draw up a site map. If you created your website all on your own and are familiar with web design, you may have skills necessary to do some SEO work yourself. On the other hand, if your site was designed by another, then you probably will want to hire a professional organization.

Time is the next thing to consider. It will take a significant amount of time dedicated to the project, especially if you've never done it before. You may find that your time could be spent on other projects for the sake of efficiency. If your competition is using a SEO company, you may need to bite the bullet and hire a professional. Otherwise, you could just try to do it yourself, because anything is better than nothing.

Lastly, you need to consider the money factor. Hiring a professional SEO company will cost some money. The work is not cheap, but the return can be significant. Professionals regularly run tests, searching for ways to achieve better rank for you. In this particular field, it is definitely true that you get what you pay for.
